Northumberland County Darts

Match report  Humberside

Northumberland travelled the relatively short distance (wish they could all be this close) to Humberside for the first county game of the season.

The ladies ‘B’ team got Northumberland of to a great start as they did so often last season winning 4-2, which set the Mens ‘B’ team up nicely and they did not disappoint winning 8-4.

First up for the ladies B was Debbie Waugh who won her game 3-2 including 3 scores of 100+ and she was followed to the stage by Toni Longstaff making her county debut who won the first 2 legs, but could not win the elusive 3rd leg to take the game and was eventually beat 3-2. Liz Kelly followed to the stage for her first game in over two seasons, only to be beaten 3 nil. Next up, making her debut for Northumberland, was Ann Marie Potts. After losing the first 2 legs she came back to win 3-2 with an average of 18.66 which also gave her the LOM award. Angela Best and Anne Dunn completed a good win for the ladies winning their games 3 nil and 3-1.

The men’s ‘B’ got off to a great start with Alan George winning his game 3 nil with a 25.91 ave including 2 180’s. Next up was Paul Bell who despite losing the 1st leg won comfortably 3-1. He was followed by Gary Lomas who lost a very tight game 3-2 but Richard Storey won the next game 3 nil to take Northumberland Men 3 - 1 up. This lead was further extended by Andy Mclure who won 3-2 with a 13 dart last leg. Though Gary Reed lost his comeback game 3-1,  Rob Stanley who followed won his game 3-1, then John Dunn lost 3-1, and young Sam Wanless won his first County game 3 nil.  Sam was followed to the stage by John Watson, who won his legs in 18, 17 and 18 darts to take the MOM award with a 28.36 ave. We then shared the last 2 games to finish with an 8-4 win.  A perfect platform to go into Sundays games leading 12-6.

First up on the Sunday for the Women was Diane Hood winning her game 3 nil including an 18 darts leg. Julie Thompson followed winning her game 3-1 winning legs of 19, 21, 22 darts with a 22.07 ave taking the LOM award. Dawn Longstaff won her game 3-2 coming back from 2 legs down and Ali Murphy also came back from 2 legs down to win 3-2 with an 18.01 ave. Next up was Jemma Reay who despite being 2 legs up ended up losing 3-2, and Angela Turnbull then won the last game 3-2 to give the ladies ‘A’ a 5-1 win.

The Mens ‘A’ started off with Ian Gleeson who despite having an off day won a tight game 3-2. Andy McClure who was brought up from the ‘B’ team won his game 3-1 giving Northumberland an unassailable 19 points. Though the pressure was off the rest of the lads, Chris Bewick won a tight game 3-2 including 2 180’s and Mens team captain Paul Sinclair won his game 3-1. Darren Shields lost 3-1, but John Stevenson was next up winning his game 3-1 with a 25.53 ave, also taking the MOM award.  Frankie Skillen won his game 3-2, but then with Northumberland men sitting on 6-1 lead, a  run of losses from Mark Stephenson 3-0, Saturdays MOM John Watson (playing Humberside’s MOM) 3 nil,  Jimmy Blakey 3-1 and then Steve Wanless 3-1 it left David Maitland to win the last mens game 3 nil to seal a 7-5 win for the mens A.

A really good start to the season for Northumberland winning 27-12.
